SAP Calculation & EPC

We can provide SAP calculations and provide design advice. We can also issue EPC (Energy Performance Certificates) being accredited OCDEA’s (On Construction Domestic Energy Assessors), which give the properties their energy efficiency rating.

We can also provide energy efficiency ratings via SAP calculations on properties under Building Regulations Part L1B for conversions, renovations and extensions.

What is a SAP Calculation?

A SAP calculation is an energy rating, which provides results of CO2 emissions and fuel costs for a new dwelling and for conversions, renovations and extensions.

Why are SAP calculations required?

All new buildings will need to be assessed under the new Part L1A 2013 or Part L1B for existing. For the Part L1A building regulations a SAP calculation will be required at the design stage to provide to building control along with a predicted energy certificate. These can only be provided by a qualified On Construction Domestic Energy Assessor. The SAP calculation will then need to be finalised at the As Built Stage and an EPC will then be provided. An EPC is a summary certificate based on the SAP calculation. It required for selling a property and is now required to be shown to building control.

Why Use Soundtesting for your SAP Calculations

We can deliver on:

  • Design Stage SAP Calculations
  • SAP Design and compliance advice
  • Predicted Energy Certificate
  • U-value calculations
  • As Built SAP Calculations

Our experienced assessors can carry out SAP and u-value calculations and provide design advise on complicated developments. Our staff have many years experience carrying out SAP calculations and since 2008 we can issue EPC’s (Energy Performance Certificates) being accredited OCDEA’s (On Construction Domestic Energy Assessors). If you have a development with many properties discounts will apply.

We use NHER and Stroma software. We can provide you more than just a SAP calculation and EPC, giving you advise on how to improve your building to comply go beyond building regulations standards.

More on SAPs

A SAP calculation is required for building regulations, Part L1a and Part L1b (existing). It is a heatloss calculation, working out the fuel cost of the dwelling and the CO2 emissions, also known as DER/TER calculation.

The SAP calculation will produce the EPC (energy performance certificate) and show a rating from 1-100 or A-G. With the higher the rating, the lower the running costs.

It takes in to account several elements of the building, from:
– the structure
– fabric elements e.g. wall insulation (u-values)
– ventilation e.g. air tightness
– heating efficiency
– heating controls
– lights
– renewable technologies.

It is a desktop exercise, all we require is plans and specifications which can be emailed in to us.

A site visit can always be arranged if required to provide advise on the design of the building to help pass the SAP calculation.
