Why Do You Need Air Pressure Testing?

Building Regulations require that new build and existing buildings other than dwellings (i.e. non-domestic or commercial properties) complete Air Leakage Testing. This is due to the fact that gaps and cracks in the building fabric are often difficult to detect by visual inspection. Therefore, the only satisfactory way to show the building fabric is reasonably airtight is to measure the leakiness of the building fabric as a whole.

The production of energy emits carbon and there has been shown to be a direct link between carbon emissions and global warming (climate change). According to the Committee on Climate Change’s 2012 report, emissions from buildings account for 37% of the total greenhouse gas emissions in the UK and a significant part of buildings emissions are related to space heating. The Government has made commitments to reduce CO2 emissions and their methods for addressing the conservation of fuel and power in buildings is outlined by The Building Regulations Approved Document L.

It is your responsibility to commission air testing and to ensure this is carried out by a test body with approved qualifications and affiliations.
Sounds complicated? It can be.

But you can rest easy knowing our fully trained engineers are testing to the latest standards and using UKAS calibrated equipment. Better than that, our experienced team are here to offer advice to help in achieving the required results for building completion.

How You Can Ensure All Tests Pass First Time

Failure in a test will result in the air tightness needing to be improved and the construction type retested. This can be time-consuming and costly, and could even result in problems in complying with your SAP Calculation for Building Control.

We can work with you to ensure key areas of potential air leakage are addressed and that our pre-start checklist is used prior to any testing.

Our experienced engineers work with developers, contractors, architects and planners of all sizes from the early design stage to help minimise any potential issues right through to project completion, ensuring that all properties are compliant.

Here at soundtesting.co.uk, not only can we conduct the air pressure tests for you, but we also have experienced consultants who can offer diagnostic advice in air tightness problem solving and design, to help the process in complying with Building Regulations Approved Document L.
