Soundtesting provided an environmental noise survey, pre-completion sound insulation testing and air tightness testing for The Forge.

The Forge, located on Bradford Street in Birmingham, is a development of 142 luxury apartments over five floors.

Our consultancy team initially carried out a noise survey in accordance with BS8233 to address a planning condition relating to environmental noise. Birmingham City Council also require planning applicants to manage noise in accordance with  Planning Consultation Guidance Note – Noise & Vibration (PCGN-1), which we also addressed in our pre-construction report.

Once the building work was complete, our testing engineers ensured that all properties met sound insulation standards for Approved Document Part E of the Building Regulations, by completing wall and floor testing.

Air tightness testing was performed across the entire development, to demonstrate compliance with Approved Document L1A.

“The main challenges with The Forge were around completing during the COVID-19 situation. We experienced delays, followed by material shortages in early 2020 and keeping to a deadline was key.”

“Soundtesting helped us deliver the project on time by committing to pre-booked dates, which ensured that our teams knew when certain aspects of the project needed to be completed for the testing. Even with the pre-booked dates, there was flexibility and understanding when we had to rearrange testing visits.”

“The Soundtesting team were understanding of our need to keep the process of finishing the build going, and offered us out-of-hours testing so everyday works didn’t need to be halted whilst the sound and air testing was done. The onsite engineer was efficient and helpful, and just got on with the job.”

“The swift turnaround and completeness of reports meant that the process of getting Building Control sign off was made easier and quicker. We were kept up to date at each stage of the testing and reporting, which allowed us to be prepared and keep the project on track.”

“I’d definitely work with Soundtesting again – there was nothing that they could do better!”
