Are you aware that the Noise at Work Regulations
are changing on 6th April 2006?
·
Do you know what impact this may have on
you working environment?
…….or
what you may have to do to protect yourself from legal action?
On the 6th April 2006 there will be a very significant change to the noise
at work regulations.
Previously the Noise at Work Regulations only dealt with action levels. Meaning that if your workers were exposed to high noise levels, i.e 85dBA, you would have to supply and maintain the use of hearing protection, amongst various other things.
In April 2006,
there is a subtle but key change in the wording……..
· NAW 1989 – Exposure action
values
· NAW 2006 – Exposure limit
values
Therefore you can no longer expose your employees to damaging noise levels.
Normally, a pair of ear defenders is sufficient to bring the noise level, at the ear, to within these new limits. However you may need to prove that this is indeed the case.
This will involve the following steps to taken:-
1. Noise in the
workplace to be reduced as far as is practically possible.
2. Noise surveys to be performed to ensure good representation of the different
noise levels each employee is subject to.
3. Employee training about the dangers of high noise levels.
At
soundtesting.co.uk Ltd we can use our team of engineers and specialist acoustics
knowledge to guide you through the NAW Regulations.
